Nutrition is the science that interprets the interaction of nutrients and other substances in food in relation to maintenance, growth, reproduction, health and disease of a patient. The purpose of a dietician is to provide a disease-specific and nutritionally well-balanced diet to the patient which shall improve their nutritional status resulting in better health.
- Diet counselling: Patient’s diet recall and history are taken and diet modification is done as per patient’s dietary habits and disease-specific requirements. The diet prescribed is written and handed over to patient/relative. The patient and the patient’s relative are educated about the diet prescribed so as to achieve the set realistic goals and hence wellness.
- Counselling of patient regarding diet is done in all medical and surgical specialities like Cardiology, Cancer, Neurology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Pediatric, and Bariatrics.
